Cluster analyses of matrices of coefficients of similarity have yielded dendrograms graphically illustrating synecological affinities in montane forest vegetation on the east flank of the central Oregon Cascades. Vegetation patterns of more continuous variability then unit—association have been divided into operational synecological units. Knowledge of areal representation and environmental gradients associated with stands allows theoretical interpretations on vegetation distribution as well as extension of the information for land management.
