Application of the Shardakov method can ve made to partial or non—regulators from which measurable fluids are not available. This type of technique for measuring osmotic pressure of body fluids is also apparently the only method that can give these results without disturbing the intact biological system. If care is taken in selecting the bath concentrations, it is possible for the same animals to be used for other studies. The Shardakov method was used to detect changes in the concentration of the blood of anurans from different habitats. These variations are correlated with the relative aridity of the habitat and the ecology of the animals.
