Egg production and ( 65)Zn excretion were measured in cabbage loopers, Trichoplusia ni (Hubner), at constant temperatures of 23 degrees C and 27 degrees C and at a fluctuating temperature ranging from 22 degrees C to 37 degrees C (X = 27 degrees C). Correlation coefficients (r) of =0.88 (P=<.0005) and +0.92 (P = <.0005) were calculated for constant—temperature and fluctuating— temperature groups, respectively. It appears that egg production could be accurately estimated on the basis of measuring ( 65)Zn loss in released and recaptured animals.
