The beach isopod Tylos punctatus occupies a high—intertidal habitat, but has a hepatopancreatic copper concentration similar to that of more marine isopods. Considerable intraspecific variation was noted, however, and the differences may not be significant. The copper—retention gradient from marine to terrestrial isopods is discussed in relation to variations in the inorganic sulfate content of the environment, and an experiment is proposed.
