Inverse relationships between snail density and mean snail size, mean number of eggs per egg mass, as well as total eggs were found to disappear with food additions. Food additions also appear to have enhanced the survivorship of snails. Evidence is presented with indicates that the food limitation in the snail is one which probably involves accessory growth factors. The sensitivity to and magnitude of regulatory responses during the life history of the snail are discussed.
