A description is made of an apparatus that will provide a continuous record of food intake by small caged birds. This apparatus employs strain gages as its principal transducer. It can detect a weight change of 0.05 g in 15 g, has an accuracy of greater than 99%, and yields a linear record of weight versus strain. The method has many obvious laboratory applications. Sample data are presented.
