The distribution of cocoons of the pine—feeding sawfly, Neodiprion fulviceps (Complex), is clearly related to ground surface temperature. In full shade such as provided by a brush field, cocoons are distributed relatively uniformly in the soil around the host tree; in the open, cocoons are concentrated at the base of the tree and on the north and east sides of the bole.
