Many researchers have been associated with studies involving the use of results of benchmark farms in aggregation; however, only limited attention appears to have been given the effect of benchmark farm selection on aggregation bias. This paper is concerned with the selection procedure of such farms from a sample of farms, and in the aggregation of linear programming results of these benchmark farms in estimating the potential output of a major commodity for an area. Possible bias associated with a conventional method of selection is discussed, an alternative method of selection is presented, and the supply functions for milk for a sample of farms in one geographic area are compared using the two approaches.
