Evans is reduced to synonymy under Cheilolejeunea (Spruce) Schiffn. because of the existence of a series of intermediate species, including Cheilolejeunea insecto Grolle & Gradst. sp. nov. from Bolivia and Brazil and Cheilolejeunea chenii R.L. Zhu & M.L. So from eastern China. The new combinations, Cheilolejeunea holostipa (Spruce) Grolle & R.L. Zhu comb. nov. and C. suzannensis (Grolle) Grolle & R.L. Zhu comb, nov., are proposed.
