Summary When ordination methods are used to reduce dimensionality, distortion usually occurs in the representation of resemblance distances. The seriousness of this distortion might not be revealed by examination of a matrix correlation co‐efficient. A method is described and illustrated for reducing distortion and improving the representation by an ordination of resemblance distances.
