Summary Seventeen species and one genus of plants from New Zealand and the South Pacific were described and named by K. P. J. Sprengel in 1807. These are correctly typified by Forster specimens; consequently Sprengel's usage of several names differs from those of later authors who based their concepts of these names on Banks and Solander specimens. Where necessary and possible the names are lectotypified, and one new combination is provided: Glossogyne tannensis (Sprengel) Garnock‐Jones.
