Summary The possibilities to typify the several hundred species in Linnaeus's Systema naturae ed. 10 (1759) which do not figure in the Species plantarum (1753) are analyzed. Many of these species can be typified because they were published by Linnaeus between 1755 and 1759 in other publications, others on the basis of the subsequent treatment in the second edition of Species plantarum (1762–1763). A small number of species (29) are difficult to typify and require further investigation. Some may have to be treated as nomina dubia or provided with a neotype.
