This paper gives an overview of the different views on knowledge and education. Knowledge and education present key resources in the contemporary society, characterized by intense social changes that strongly affect role, purpose and goals of education. In addition to a range of perspectives on the role of knowledge and education, attention is dedicated to their ability to secure the attainment of desirable social goods, as well as to the consequences of the science progress and the role of knowledge contemporary capitalist society.
