In the past two decades, the increased frequency of distal esophageal adenocarcinoma, esophagogastric junction and proximal gastric adenocarcinoma has been observed. The vast majority of these tumours are diagnosed in advanced stages, when the prognosis is poorer than in other gastric cancers.
