It is not clear whether associated aortic regurgitation (AR) should be regarded as a risk factor in patients undergoing surgery for severe aortic stenosis (AS). Some authors have suggested that morbidity and mortality are increased in these patients as compared to patients operated for pure AS, whereas others have found no difference of the outcome and prognosis between these groups.
