The paper deals with the problems of traveling to work, as a special form of geographical mobility of population. The accent has been given to commuting of active population. Development and changes of the extent and characteristics of commuting of workers in Serbia (without Kosovo and Metohija) during the last forty years of the 20th century have been analyzed
