As the consequence of geological composition and relief, most of karstic wells and springs in Eastern Serbia discharges gravitationally. The thickness of limestone rocks in this area is from several tens to five hundred meters and over. Their base is composed of Paleozoic schists and sandstone often on the mountain crests being denuded. That is the cause of great number of occurrences of karstic river disappearing into earth. Most of troughs surrounding mountains is filed by lacustrine deposits, most frequently consisting of clays overlaying limestone
