Contribution to the myrmecofauna (Formicidae, Hymenoptera) of the Banat province, Serbia

Ant species collected in the season of 1997, with some specimens of earlier years are presented. Collected species belong to the four subfamilies with the following number of species: Ponerinae (1 species), Myrmicinae (30) Dolichoderinae (6), Formicinae (30). Collected species are mostly Palearctic, European, and Southeuropean. Three Holarctic (Lasius alienus, L. flavus and L. niger) and four Mediterranean (Messor structor, Bothriomyrmex meridionalis Camponotus piceus and Cataglyphis aenescens) species were also registered. Mediterranean species are probably the remnants of the fauna of the region of Pannonian sea
