The memory of the cantorias-de-viola (folk poetry singing, accompanied byguitar) in Brazil´s Northeast, has been conserved by some listeners called apologists -people who admire impromptu popular poetry, keep in their memories parts ofperformances and repeat them at other events, public gatherings and family meetingswhere declamation happens.. The apologists continue to attend performances by theirfavorite popular folk poet/singers in order to reproduce their singing as primaryorality. This happens in spite of the availability of audiovisual recordingtechnologies.
