In the Seventies, the Brazilian literary system had a great growth in thenumber of producers and readers as much as the plurality of products. The circumstancesof the time, which goes from the censorship to the consolidation of the culturalindustry, help to explain this literary growth. It can also be measured up by thedevelopment of the children literature, the boom of the short story, the strength of thepopular music, the disclosures of the memoirs and testimonies, the critical allegoriesof the political novel and the denounces of the nonfiction novel. However, some of thecritics took this growth as a threat to the national canon. Among the several strategiesused by these critics to keep the canonical alignment, the presence of Naturalismin the Seventies, especially toward the nonfiction novel, is oneof the most evident.
