Importance of Sun and Sun worship in contemporary period is available from contemplation of Paramara Inscriptions. The Sun was worshipped in different forms in ancient India. Inscriptions throw light on sun worship in the time of the Paramaras in the areas ruled by him. Bhilsa was one of the most famous seats of the Sun God. The different name of the sun-god, like Bhaillasvamin, Surya, Bhanu, Vikranta, Nimbaditya, Jagata-Svamin and Balakdeva are mentioned in the Paramara Inscriptions.
