Four species of fowls namely, Blue Peafowl, Grey Junglefowl, Aravalli Red Spurfowl and Painted Spurfowl are found in Rajasthan. Except extreme western edge of the state, peafowl is distributed nearly in whole Rajasthan. Grey Junglefowl and Aravalli Red spurfowl are sympatric in distribution in southern and south-central Aravallis. Painted spurfowl is confined to forested areas of Vindhyas in south-eastern part of the state and in northern Aravallis. Currently their distribution is gradually deteriorating; therefore timely conservation practices are needed.
