The objective of the paper is to study cultural ideas about present-day and future Russia, the United States as a representative of Western civilization, and China as a representative of Eastern civilization, as well as to explore the heroic element of identity in youth living in various regions of Russia, Belarus and Ukraine. The findings show that the moral and ethical qualities presented by such categories as generosity, mercy, kindness, spirituality, patience, patriotism, diligence, and erudition reflect the cultural codes of the Russian civilization and constitute the basis of Russians unique identity. The young people's image of Russia relates to a distinct, independent development model of the country, unlike the Eastern and Western cultures. The discovered trend of transformation of the codes of cultural representations of the Russian youth regarding the homeland and its hero demonstrates how important it is to develop the Russian’s mindset to form an attitude towards the development of traditional, in particular family, moral and ethical, spiritual and patriotic basic values, historically intrinsic to the peoples of Russia.
