The paper is dedicated to the findings of the International Scientific Conference “Opera in Musical Theatre: History and Present Time”, held by the Gnesins Russian Academy of Music and the State Institute for Art Studies. The conference is dedicated to 75th anniversary of the establishment of both schools. Researchers from major scientific institutions and schools of 16 world countries (Russia, Austria, UK, Germany, Greece, Spain, Italy, Kazakhstan, China, Lithuania, Mexico, Poland, USA, Thailand, Ukraine and Croatia) took part in this global project.
The paper analyses the issues of the proceedings, indicates the preferred trends and approaches in the modern study of opera art, such as studying opera in various contexts, pursuing historical accuracy, historical re-enactment and others. It also suggests ways of further development of science in studying musical theatre.
