Paintings on hide are one of the most charactenstic produets of refigiousart in New Mexico. The articte synthesizes what is known about thesepaíntings and examines theirformalpecularities in order to grup them bypossible author. By identifying the icongraphíc sources, both European andMexican, of some of these paintings, the author expands the culturalcontexts within which they can be examined.
