The meaning of the ‘Islamic term’ and its change in contemporary Islamic thought: an evaluation study.
This research is within the field of modern linguistics and semantics and within the semantics, it is related to semantic evolution. In the introduction, I briefly discuss the title of the research and the themes of the topic and other related issues, such as the changes that have been deliberately taken on the terminology within the circle of contemporary Islamic thought. The research takes two samples of one of the researchers (Dr. Muhammad Shahrour) who has worked to change the terminology and concepts within his contemporary reading project in his book: Islam and faith- Value System- first part. After that, I refer to the research methodology. The first section deals with the terms of Islam and Muslims in Shahrour’s understanding. This will be done through the presentation of his evidence which is followed by my evaluation and assessment for it. And then by returning to the language and its lexicons as well as the Koranic evidence on which Shahrour relied upon, the research examines his evidence and understanding and then judge them to point out whether Shahrour’s interpretation is right or wrong. The same approach is applied in the second section which is about the terms of faith and believers. Finally, the findings and results of the research will be presented in the conclusion.
