This paper describes a portable laser interferometry system for measuring the speed of an indenter in Leeb hardness testers. The system is based on Photonic Doppler Velocimetry method. The radiation source is a semiconductor laser with a wavelength of 1550 nm. The presented experimental results confirm the ability of the system to measure indenter velocities with an uncertainty of 0.001 m / s, which meets the requirements of the standard.
