The article analyzes the significance of state ideology for modern society. It is proved that the ideology of the Soviet state was used to justify and maintain party power, fused with the state apparatus, as well as to suppress political competitors and political dissent. Despite the fact that the Constitution of the Russian Federation prohibits the establishment of a state or other ideology as mandatory, political ideology continues to be the most important resource of state power. It is suggested that in the modern Russian legal reality, the state ideology has not ceased to exist, but has changed, transformed into a legal ideology, the qualitative difference of which is the rule of law and general legal principles. The author argues for the formation of a national legal idea, on the basis of which a balance of political forces will be achieved, and different social strata will interact. It is concluded that the key values of modern legal ideology, in the promotion of which the state actively participates, are patriotism, the preservation of the people, and citizenship.
