Ayurvedic medicine was considered to be world’s oldest medical system, which was originated in Indiadating back over thousands of years. There was a long history regarding plants for the improvementof dental health and oral hygiene. Dentistry, Herbal Medicine, Periodontitis. Current researchesshowed that herbal extracts are effective because of the interaction with specific chemical receptorswithin the body. Nowadays, there has been a sudden increase in the use of herbal extracts or plantproducts as an alternative approach to modern day medicines. This system originated fromAtharvaveda, one of the four Vedas written before 5000 B.C. However its use in dentistry/oral healthis very limited. Therefore the present study was done to evaluate the effeicacy of Triphala and Bakulin comparison with chlorhexidine as an adjunct to non surgical periodontal therapy.
