The activity level in water‐related environmental law was low in 2009, despite the Clean Water Act being a high priority of the new Congress (WEF, 2009h). Few new regulations were offered during the year, with most activity taking place in the areas of air pollution and toxic substances. A number of US Environmental Protection Agency Regional Administrators were appointed late in the year, however, which may result in more activity in 2010.
