Results show that catalytic ozonation with γ‐AlOOH can substantially enhance the removal effectiveness of 2, 4, 6‐trichloroanisole (TCA) in drinking water. Scavenging of radicals tests reveals that the improved 2, 4, 6‐trichloroanisole degradation is due to the enhanced generation of hydroxyl radicals. The uncharged surface hydroxyl groups on γ‐AlOOH in water can induce aqueous ozone decomposition to generate hydroxyl radicals. The catalytic activity of γ‐AlOOH decreased as thermal treatment temperature increased.
