The article provides information on the general principles of modern biological education from the perspective of the system-activity approach. It gives a technological description of project and research class activity, including a description of work phases. The paper also features a pattern that can help students analyze their own project and research activities, which form the research culture of students and transform the quasi-research they conduct during biology lessons into their personal self-development. This is possible thanks to compliance with the procedures of scientifi investigation, adapted to the level of cognitive capabilities of students. The author mentions academic writing skills that are formed by writing reports. The use of the pattern shapes one’s skills of expressing and selecting scientific facts, understanding the purpose of various types and parts of the text, analysis of emotional state changes when conducting a research, processing and understanding information.
