Summary We describe a case of airway obstruction secondary to the cuff of a laryngeal mask airway (LMA) becoming separated from the breathing tube whilst in situ in a fit and healthy 1‐yr‐old child. The incident occurred midway through an elective hypospadias repair. Recognition and management of the problem was timely such that the operation was safely completed. The child was woken up postoperatively and discharged home without injury.
