Summary Metaraminol is commonly administered to counteract the hypotensive effects of anaesthetic agents. We report an unusual case of Mobitz type 1 second degree atrioventricular block or Wenckebach, occuring as a result of metaraminol used at therapeutic doses, during general anaesthesia for posterior fossa surgery. We discuss the pathophysiology of Wenckebach and postulate the likely explanation in this case.
