Mullins, S-4 Environmental Quality have been discussing issues of overlap Larry T. West, S-5 and the possible need for restructuring. In this regard, the Robert E. Sojka, S-6 Divisions surveyed their membership to gather information to help determine the future of their Divisions. S-11 Chair John D. Joslin, Jr., S-7 Sally Brown reported that although the survey had some flaws, Joseph P. O’Connor, S-8 the predominant response was to develop a new society. Upon Douglas W. Ming, S-9 further reflection, however, thought was that perhaps another Scott D. Bridgham, S-10 society was not necessarily needed. However, restructuring Lena Q. Ma, S-11 within the Society(ies) was certainly needed. SSSA-ASA Board Representatives: David L. Nofziger, S-1 ACS090 Agronomic Science Foundation M. Ali Tabatabai, S-2 Martin A. Massengale, Chair of the ASF Board of Trustees, Thomas E. Loynachan, S-3 reported on activities of the Foundation. ASF exists to support John L. Havlin, S-4 the Societies and funds in ASF are an investment in the future. Robert J. Ahrens, S-5 They support ongoing activities of the Societies as well as Douglas L. Karlen, S-6 new activities. Each year the Societies are asked for a list of Darlene Zabowski, S-7 priorities. In 2003, ASF raised over $420 000; $300 000 is for William R. Raun, S-8 the Smithsonian exhibit. As a matter of record, the SSSA Board approved, via mail ballot, recognition of the Western Society of Soil Science Lee E. Sommers, World Congress on Soil Science as the Western Branch of SSSA.
