Aggregate and crust density measurements by existing methods are usually time consuming and difficult. This study was conducted to develop and verify a simple procedure to predict soil aggregate and crust density from soil physical properties. A predictive equation based on saturated water content and clay content of seven soils was developed. Soil textures ranged from fine sandy loam to clay with organic matter contents of 4.7 to 64.6 g kg ‐1 . Bulk densities of aggregates and crusts of 10 soils were predicted using the procedure developed in this study and were measured by the clod method. Soil aggregate and crust textures ranged from loamy fine sand to clay with organic matter content of 4.7 to 47.4 g kg ‐1 . Predicted and measured aggregate densities had similar values. However, the predicted crust densities were lower than those measured. Results of this study indicate that the procedure developed in this study can be used as a relatively simple, fast, and reliable technique to predict aggregate densities in similar soils.
