A brief commentary is made of the accumulated knowledge, present activity, and future potential of topics in soil biology and the interaction of soil biology with related disciplines. New developments in biotechnology should be harnessed in soil and crop management, but this will only be achieved with even closer interdisciplinary cooperation.
