A theoretical relationship between the apparent dielectric constant ( K a ) and the water content (θ r ) of porous media is presented. The dielectric effect of the porous medium is investigated at the microscopic scale of the probable path of an electric charge. This path is a function of the environment of the charge. Only one parameter, the number of degrees of freedom of the charge is necessary to describe the heterogeneity of the porous medium. The results of this model generally agree very well with recently published experimental data.
