An inexpensive variable‐depth ground‐water sampler for 4‐cm i.d. PVC well casing is made from readily available materials. The sampler will extract water samples at any selected depth from a shallow aquifer via a perforated well casing without mixing water from different strata. Water samples can be obtained from a depth of about 10 m with standard vacuum equipment.
