Barium chloride solution used to extract soil Al was found to react with an aluminon reagent to form aluminon lake as does Al and enhance color intensity. It is suggested that in soil extracts where aliquots required for Al determination are < 10 ml, additional 1 N BaCl 2 should be added to give a constant total quantity of 10 ml BaCl 2 in all extracts. In soil extracts with low Al concentrations, where aliquots larger than 10 ml are required for analysis using the aluminon method, no corrections for BaCl 2 interference are necessary.
