A simple system for sectioning water‐saturated cores without prior freezing is described. The method described can be used for studying the distribution and movement of ions in soil or sediment cores prepared in the laboratory or obtained in undisturbed form from the field. The average coefficient of variation was 4.8% for the sectioning of the cores prepared in the laboratory and 10.5% for the sectioning of the cores obtained from the field.
