A dry combustion method for oxidation of 14 C‐labeled pesticides in soils and determination of total 14 C is described. The method is a modification of the procedure using a Leco high‐temperature induction furnace for oxidation and determination of total C in soils. In the modified system, the CO 2 evolved from sample oxidation is trapped in a NaOH solution, which can be analyzed for total 14 C radioassay and for total C by titrimetry.
