A device is described which can be used to dig a ditch to isolate soil blocks in the field. The ditch can be as deep as 1.5 m with a width of 2.5 cm thus minimizing the amount of soil disturbance in individual blocks. The necessary equipment can be fabricated in a well equipped shop with a minimum of expense.
