An apparatus was constructed from polyvinylchloride pipe and 30‐gauge disposable hypodermic needles for measurement of microbial activity in soil. The apparatus was compact, easy to construct, and adaptable to any number of samples. It has been used in our laboratory for simultaneous collection of CO 2 from 250 soil samples.
