Two equations are evaluated in relation to their suitability as rate equations for phosphorus sorption by selected Oklahoma soils. The rate equation which best fits experimental data was ∂ S /∂ t = aC b S c where S is the sorbed concentration [mass per unit weight of the soils], C is solution concentration [mass per unit weight of the solution], t is time and a, b , and c are constants.
