An asphalt paving meter which allows convenient and rapid measurement of air permeability was used in undisturbed soil. Permeability differences due to location in a field were significant, but since the absolute values contain an unknown and variable combination of vertical and horizontal permeability, the measurements are likely to be useful only under very special circumstances.
