In order to establish the presence of tabular halloysite in soils of widely distributed geographical areas, a study was made of the < 0.2µ clay fraction of four soils. This relatively new clay mineral was found in the Weston soil series from Florida and the Chicaj series of Guatemala. These two soils along with two series from Texas already known to contain tabular halloysite showed the mineral to have moderately high surface areas and cation exchange capacities. Chemical analyses show significant quantities of Mg and Fe present. Upon examination by X‐ray diffraction all clays showed a 7.4A peak characteristic of this clay mineral.
