The probable distributions of the ion‐pairs CaSO 4 ° and CaCO 3 °, and complex CaHCO 3 + in solution are discussed thermodynamically and graphically in terms of SO 4 2‐ , CO 3 2‐ , HCO 3 ‐ , and H + activities. In alkali media where the CO 3 2‐ form predominates, the CaCO 3 ° species will dominate the CaSO 4 ° and CaHCO 3 + forms and is a significant part of the total calcium in solution.
