Two methods for quantitatively analyzing nonionic surfactant concentration in soil leachates were investigated. A colorimetric technique was found to produce good results for several nonionic surfactants (including two which have been marketed primarily for soil use) without interference from extraneous materials extracted from the soil in the leachate. A turbidity technique was found to apply for surfactants diluted in distilled water, but was not useful for the analysis of surfactant in soil leachates.
