Abstract The solubility product of gypsum at 20C was calculated using a converging cyclic procedure which involved the use of a published value for the dissociation constant of gypsum, an experimentally determined value for total Ca concentration, and the second approximation of the Debye‐Hückel equation. Total Ca concentration of filtered saturated extracts was determined using atomic absorption spectroscopy. From this method the solubility product of CaSO 4 at 20C was found to be 2.46 × 10 ‐5 and 32.1% of total soluble Ca was found to be present as ion pairs.
